On the morning of May 13, the eighth lecture of the "West Lake Academy" academic series of lectures was held in the lecture hall of the Student Activity Center. This lecture specially invited chemical engineering expert, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhejiang University professor Ren Qilong to give a special report on "Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Material Civilization". President Xin Zhong presided over the lecture, and representatives of relevant entrepreneurs in Fuyang City and teachers and students of Fuyang Institute of Technology attended.

Ren Qilong took "the difference and connection between chemistry and chemical engineering" as the starting point, centered on the "four aspects" proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping when he presided over the symposium of scientists, and combined with the wide application of chemistry and chemical engineering in aerospace, new energy vehicles, information technology, life and health, etc., he systematically answered the key question of "what is chemistry and chemical engineering doing?" Academician Ren Qilong pointed out that my country's chemical industry is in a critical window period of transformation and upgrading, presenting a complex situation of opportunities and challenges intertwined. In the future, chemistry and chemical engineering will continue to make breakthroughs in key areas such as smarter chemical experimental methods, more specific functional materials and greener chemical technologies, and continue to develop in the direction of high-end, intelligent and green, opening up a "new blue ocean" for high-quality development of the chemical industry.

In the question-and-answer session, teachers and students actively spoke and asked questions on topics such as "Main problems and coping strategies encountered in professional research", "How to promote the independent control of key new energy materials through innovation in chemical separation technology", and "Research on thermal runaway warning and protection technology for energy storage batteries". Academician Ren Qilong patiently answered the questions raised by teachers and students with his profound academic knowledge and rich scientific research experience. The atmosphere at the report meeting was warm and academic, and teachers and students benefited a lot from the feedback.

Xin Zhong pointed out that this report is not only a knowledge popularization, but also a vivid display of the colorful future world of chemistry and chemical engineering. He encouraged teachers and students to cherish their love for science and their persistent pursuit of truth, consciously shoulder the important task of the future development of chemistry and chemical engineering, and work together to make the greatest efforts for the high-quality development of Fuyang Institute of Technology and the Chinese-style modernization construction.
